Can you guess what is the top fitness trend being predicted for 2017?
Are you thinking fun 5k’s (like the Hot Chocolate 5k or the Color Run 5k)? Nope.
What about fancy diets like the No Gluten diet or the Only Eat Grapefruit diet? Nope.
Or how about the new piece of fitness equipment that runs for you while you sleep?
Okay, not gonna lie, that would be TOTALLY cool...
But nope.
The number ONE fitness trend predicted for 2017 is…dunn, dunn, dunn... WEARABLE DEVICES!
And, I am SO excited this is not only on the list but is number ONE!
Let me tell you why I like wearable devices.
1. It is a mirror of your reality.
A little spoiler alert here, they are all not one hundred percent accurate, BUT they will definitely give you a small dose of reality. See, sometimes you think you are working much harder than you are really working. Or, you are working harder than you need to work! And, this is important if you have a specific goal you want to reach (ie, running your PR in a race or losing five pounds before your birthday). Having a device to show your real pace or your real caloric expenditure is definitely a benefit in helping you reach your goals.
2. They push you into moving.
Yep, wearing a wearable device can serve as a motivator to get your butt out of a chair. Some devices can be set up to vibrate if you have been sitting for a certain length of time. One of my campers has her wearable device set for every hour. If she has not moved, it will vibrate and “remind” her to get up and move about. Your exercise and activity don't always have to be a thirty minute run or an hour boot camp, it can be as simple as taking a walk to the water fountain, take a lap around your desk, pop a few squats in your chair, and then get back to work. A wearable device is kinda like your momma telling you to eat your fruits and veggies; they can be a little annoying, but you greatly appreciate the small push to stay healthy!
3. They are just fun!
If you have been training many years, tracking your food, monitoring your health numbers or just managing your weight, you know it is important every once in awhile to shake things up by adding some fun. A wearable device can do just that! During a workout, it is fun to look and track your heart rate. Or, see how many miles you actually ran. Or, how many calories you burned during yoga. Wearing a device to track your running, your eating, and your workouts lends to fun competition with yourself and sometimes, with others. You can totally get your friends and family in on the fun, too, and start competitions with each other!
So, wearable devices are on point to be the number one fitness trend of 2017. And, as you can tell, I am excited about it! Anything to help you move, stay motivated and have some fun while you are working out gets two thumbs up from me. And, by the way, I use one every time I work out. Yuppp, I’m a numbers girl. :)
